Get Out!

"If you don't like 'murica, then you ken giit out!"

Imagine if a diner were to go to a Mexican restaurant. While reading the menu this person becomes very upset because they do not have chow mein on the menu. Despite the fact that this is a Mexican restaurant, this individual insists that they should include chow mein as an option on the dinner menu. This person then goes on to say that Chow Mein is available at Lo He Fook’s Chinese Cuisine and the owners of this Mexican restaurant need to follow that example. Normally the proprietors of this Mexican restaurant would not change their menu to accommodate this nutcase, and would politely suggest he take his business elsewhere.

When interacting with socialists in the United States I feel as though these folks are very much like the hypothetical diner described in the above paragraph. When reviewing the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights, and the literature from the Enlightenment period which inspired the American Revolution, it’s pretty clear that this republic was never intended to be a socialist oligarchy. However, many persons in this country wish for exactly that. They want the Constitution thrown out the window and replaced with the Communist Manifesto. The ideas of Marx, Lenin, and Trotsky are contrary to the principles of liberty and independence communicated in this republic’s founding documents. So why do they want to make America a socialist country? Many socialists would argue that some of the more socialist countries of Europe and Central America are Utopias that put the United States to shame. There doesn’t appear to be any shortage of socialist oligarchies in the world. If these countries are as super-awesome as the socialist elements of our culture claim, then what the hell are these folks still doing here?

I know it’s a cliche’ to say “If you don’t like ‘murica, then you ken giit out!” but in this case I can’t help but sympathize with that point of view. If these folks are so unhappy here and use examples of other countries as models for how they feel things ought to be, why don’t they simply live there instead. If you want chow mien, go to the Chinese place and leave the people at the Mexican place alone. This is where I find myself severely at odds with socialists. Just because they don’t like the Constitution and the Bill of Rights doesn’t give them the right to wreck it for those of us who do.  This republic was founded upon certain principles. If you disagree with those principles, them maybe America is not the place for you. On the other hand at the rate the Federal Government is currently swirling down the commie rat hole, it will no longer be the place for those of us who do believe in those principles either.

It’s a happy fantasy I have where socialists in America leave to go live in China, Cuba, Venezuela or some other collectivist paradise, but I know that will never happen. Socialists don’t believe in making the individual choice of leaving. Hoping for these folks to leave the rest of us alone is like hoping that the Jehovah’s Witnesses will stay in their church on Saturday mornings instead of hassling everyone in the neighborhood with their little pamphlets. They don’t think that way. They want to make the choices for everyone else ‘for their own good’. In many ways these folks are evangelical in their ideology. It’s not enough for them to espouse a particular belief, they want everyone else to be subject to that belief whether they like it or not. That’s why they won’t leave for what they might believe to be greener pastures. They’re on a mission to convert every free country to their religion.

Socialism isn’t an individual choice. It’s a collectivist edict. Everyone needs to be on board with it or it cannot function. A free society can tolerate pockets of socialism, but it is impossible for a socialist government to tolerate pockets of free market economics. That would be a great blasphemy against Marx and his manifesto. The socialist in America sees himself as a champion for the downtrodden and will not abandon his cause for his own individual happiness. Even though it’s likely that the downtrodden would rather be left alone, that won’t happen. The socialist Utopian knows what’s good for you even if you don’t. You redneck ingrates better do what he wants you to do. It’s ‘for your own good’.
