Congress Doesn’t Care About Young People

by chad on March 30, 2009

Hey, guess what? Those crazy conspiracy theorists that feared mandatory service from this new administration? It looks like they weren’t so far off after all. Granted, Congress… not the president… is the guilty party here, but evidence exists that suggests that our new president is also all about mandatory service.

References for those with time (the bill is pretty short):

House Resolution 1444 , in which Congress considers repealing the 13th amendment.

Obama’s chief of douchebaggery staff supports mandatory service.

Change.gov outlines plans to “require 50 hours of community service.” Later altered the page.

Lazy? Sections 6 & 7 of HR 1444:

(6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.

(7) The need for a public service academy, a 4-year institution that offers a federally funded undergraduate education with a focus on training future public sector leaders.

Yes, let us develop a way to subvert that pesky 13th amendment. That’s a great idea!

I was willing to give the administration the benefit of the doubt… perhaps an overzealous webmaster posted the wrong thing, right? It seems, though, that the conspiracy nuts were right. It’s a sad day when the most far fetched, repulsive plans of our government are revealed as abject truth. Even if this does not pass… consider the mentality of someone who is willing to enslave an entire generation for some ethereal “greater good.”

If you think that this is “good for those whippersnappers”… I humbly suggest that this is not likely to be the end of this national service idea. Also, congratulations… you’re a horrible, maladjusted idiot.
