Talking the talk

by Crazy Ivan on February 6, 2009

Today marks the birth date of the 40th President of the United States Ronald Wilson Reagan. Reagan was the President who most conservatives today look back upon with teary-eyed nostalgia. He was called the “Great Communicator” and would speak eloquently about the dangers of a big monolithic Federal government and decry the expense that government would incur upon the taxpayer. Unfortunately, Reagan would then increase Federal spending and offload the expense in the form of a deficit. So, as president he didn’t really walk the walk. But the man could definitely talk the talk. For all you liberty minded readers out there, here’s a little something that should give you a Chris Matthews-esque tingle up your leg.

Hmm. Inspirational speaker, talked about getting past the left vs right dynamic, part of a political party that just regained power, appoints a party insider (douche bag) for VP. Did Reagan also make an economic plan his first priority which was then high jacked by entrenched and incompetent members of his own party?

Like I said, Reagan definitely talked the talk. As far as walking the walk went, he fell pretty far short. He said all the right things and I still find myself inspired by these speeches. It's a pity that his actions as President didn't live up to his rhetoric.

Oops! That was a substantial blunder on my part. Kind of a major typo. I fixed it and flushed that little mistake down the memory hole.
